NCAA National Champion 800m

High school track star Anthony Luna had his sights set on college after graduation in 2004, but his life made other plans. With a child on the way, Luna’s
focus naturally shifted to providing for his son.

Fifteen months later, a phone call from track coach Peter Julian and a scholarship offer from Metro State gave him a second shot at success as a student-athlete.

Luna, now a junior majoring in criminal justice and
criminology, is the 2009 NCAA Division II national
champion in the men’s indoor 800-meter run.
