KEARNEY, NEB. - Metro State women's tennis player Yerica Pessoa advanced to the semifinals at the ITA Central Region Championships in Kearney, Neb. on Saturday.  Pessoa, seeded third, will face eighth seed Morgan Forsyth of Colorado State-Pueblo at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.  The winner will face either fifth seed Anastasia Dabiza of Upper Iowa or seventh seed Kelleen Sera of Mesa State.

DENVER, Colo. - Metro State Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance Jill McCartney announced that 62 Roadrunner student-athletes were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the spring 2009 semester.  To qualify, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.50 or better for the semester.

2009 Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Metro State's athletic teams capped off their most successful year in school history by finishing 13th nationally in the 2008-09 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, rating the success of 232 NCAA Division II schools in the country.  The standings are determined by a scoring system that ranks success at the national level in 27 sports.  Each school is scored on only 14 of those 27 sports to ensure equality among schools that sponsor a different number of sports.  This was Metro State's highest final ranking in school history.  Its previous best year was in 1999 as the Roadrunners finished in 22nd place.

Metro State had three former student-athletes represented on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's all-time men's and women's tennis teams, released on Wednesday.  Current senior Sascha Ruckelshausen was on the men's team, while current head coach and former player Rebecca Meares and her sister Jessica Meares were both named to the women's team.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Metro State's Jesse Wagstaff (men's basketball) and Mitra Hirad (women's tennis) were both named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Honor Student-Athletes on Thursday by the conference office.  Each of the 14 schools in the RMAC chooses on male and one female student-athlete to represent the school.  To be eligible for the RMAC Honor Student-Athlete award, individuals must be an athlete in one of the conference sponsored championship sports; carry at least a 3.20 Grade Point Average (GPA); be either a starter or key reserve on their respective team; be of good character and must have participated at the active member institution for two (2) or more seasons in at least one (1) sport. True freshmen and first year transfers are not eligible for this award.

DENVER, Colo. - The Metro State men's and women's tennis teams will be hosting tryouts on Monday, June 8 at 11 a.m. on Metro State's Auraria Courts.  Everyone who attends will need to have had a physical examination done within the last six months and must have a copy of the physical with them. If participants do not have the physical form with them, they will not be able to try out .  If students are already attending Metro State College they must also have their student ID number with them.  For more information, please contact head coach Beck Meares at 303-556-3440 or meares@mscd.edu.
