RICHARDSON, Texas - Former Metro State women's soccer player Becca Mays scored the game-winning goal to lead Boston Aztec to the WPSL national championship, defeating Ajax America 2-1 on Sunday in Richardson, Texas.  Boston Aztec is a reserve team for the Boston Breakers of the Women's Premier Soccer League.  Mays scored on a rebound after a teammate's shot was deflected off the crossbar in the 83rd minute, giving Aztec a 2-1 lead with seven minutes remaining.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Metro State baseball player Tommy Frikken and women's soccer and track athlete Jen Thomas were both named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference scholar-athletes on Monday.  Frikken carries a 3.46 grade point average in behavioral science.  Thomas has a 3.77 GPA in chemistry.

DENVER, Colo. - Metro State’s athletic department announced the graduation of 30 current and former student-athletes and the graduation of one assistant coach on Tuesday. Nine of the 30 finished their degrees during the 2009 fall semester, while the remaining 22 graduated during this past Sunday’s ceremony on the Metro State campus.

Metro State's women's soccer team will host its 2010 Roadrunners Soccer Academy camps July 12-16 at Metro State's soccer field.  The camp is designed for players ages 6-14.  Roadrunner Soccer Academy’s summer camps are designed to create a challenging and fun environment for soccer players. Our goal is that each player leaves camp with the positive feeling, excitement, and passion for the game that we have in our Metro State programs.

DENVER, Colo. - Metro State women’s soccer head coach Adrianne Almaraz announced the addition of seven players for the 2010 season on Tuesday. Three transfers and four freshmen make up the signing class. Transfers Aubrey Fondy (Arvada, Colo./Nova Southeastern University), Athena Lopez (Denver, Colo./University of South Carolina-Upstate) and Alex Moore (Colorado Springs, Colo./Florida International University) join freshmen Becca Medina (Denver, Colo.), Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz.), Nicole Pollack (Englewood, Colo.) and Sarah Tanous (Colorado Springs, Colo.).

DENVER, Colo. - Metro State athletic director Joan McDermott announced the College’s 2010 Hall of Fame class on Tuesday. Five individuals and one team will make up the ninth Hall of Fame class in Roadrunner athletics history and the first since 2007. The 1989-90 men’s basketball team, former men’s basketball player Lee Barlow, former volleyball player Devon Herron, former women’s soccer player Amy Leichliter (pronounced “leck-lighter”), former women’s soccer coach Ed Montojo (pronounced “mon-ta-joe”) and former assistant athletic director Joel R. (J.R.) Smith will all be inducted on Saturday, Feb. 20.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Metro State finished the fall sports season tied for seventh in the Learfield Sports NCAA Division II Director's Cup standings, released on Dec. 23 by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.  The final standings include football.  The fall football season had not been completed in the previous standings released on Dec. 10.

Roadrunners Update:
Metro State’s season came to an end on Nov. 20 when it tied No. 21 Colorado Mines 0-0 and the Orediggers advanced to the national quarterfinals on penalty kick after winning the shootout 4-3. Becca Maloney made three saves in the game as the Roadrunners outshot CSM 22-7.
