DENVER, Colo. - Metro State athletic director Joan McDermott announced Derrick Clark as the new men’s head basketball coach on Thursday afternoon. Clark becomes the seventh men’s basketball coach in the College’s illustrious history and replaces Brannon Hays, who resigned in May.

Season Recap:
Metro State finished the 2009-10 season with a record of 24-7 overall, including 14-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, finishing tied for first place in the East Division. The Roadrunners went on to win the RMAC Shootout for the eighth time in school history, rallying from a 19-point second half deficit to defeat New Mexico Highlands 83-79 in the championship. Metro State then fell to eventual Central Region Champion St. Cloud State 82-77 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Central Region Tournament. Head coach Brannon Hays resigned in late May to pursue a career advancement.

DENVER, Colo. - Metro State’s athletic department announced the graduation of 30 current and former student-athletes and the graduation of one assistant coach on Tuesday. Nine of the 30 finished their degrees during the 2009 fall semester, while the remaining 22 graduated during this past Sunday’s ceremony on the Metro State campus.

MANKATO, Minn. - St. Cloud State hit 8-of-10 free throws over the final three minutes to hold off a late Metro State run, knocking the Roadrunners out of the NCAA Central Region Tournament with an 82-77 win on Saturday. Metro State’s season came to an end after a 24-7 record, while SCSU improved to 26-5 and will face top-seed Minnesota State, Mankato at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Metro State will play St. Cloud State (Minn.) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Central Region Tournament on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. (CDT) in Mankato, Minn. It is the 13th time in the past 14 years that Metro State has qualified for the NCAA Tournament, the most of any Division II school during that time.

DENVER, Colo. - Metro State men's basketball player Donte Nicholas was named Daktronics second team All-Central Region on Wednesday, one of 10 players on the all-region team.  The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from the Central Region, made up of 32 men’s basketball playing institutions in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
